Our Repair Policies

Repair Philosophy​​

Prompt, reliable, safe and comprehensive, at affordable prices.

​

​We regularly tear bikes down to bare frames and rebuild them to produce our refurbished masterpieces, so any repair or maintenance problem you might bring us we have mastered many times over.
 
Prompt
We will fix flat tires same day, and we guarantee every repair will be finished within 5 business days. This time guarantee does not apply to compete overhauls, powder-coating frames, or repairs which require special-order parts.

Reliable
All repairs are guaranteed to last. Except for flat tires, if any repair fails within 90 days, we will fix it again free of charge
​

We offer the same one-year warranty on complete overhauls, and on any complete system overhaul (e.g., the brake system: brake levers, calipers, cable, housing, and shoes).

Safe and comprehensive
While doing each repair, we thoroughly check each bike for safety of steering, stopping and security, notify the owner of any issues that we find, and provide the completed checklist when the bike is picked up.

Basic Bike Maintenance Coaching

We also value our mechanics' time and skills.

Our experienced service staff will demonstrate and coach you through  basic repair procedures. Teaching/ coaching can be customized to your needs, Fees are $15 per hour. Volunteers may use shop credits for the coaching.

The repair jobs listed below often require cleaning the bike or parts prior to doing the repair. The customer may waive the cleaning but since parts wear is of function of use and abrasive dirt, dirty parts will have shorter life. If the customer wants to use our cleaning facility to clean the bike, we will not charge the cleaning fee.

Comprehensive Services ​

The labor estimates below are based on what we have found that well-used bicycles typically need. We will diagnose the bike when you drop it off, so you will know exactly what it needs and what you will be paying.

 

These comprehensive services are guaranteed for 90 days, so if there are any problems that we missed, we will complete such repairs free of charge. (We expect our tune-ups to last much longer, but some people ride heir bikes often and hard enough to wear out such items as chains, tires and brake pads in 90 days).

​

Safety Check ($50): Ensures STEERING, STOPPING, and SECURITY are safe.

​

Steering:

  • Tires checked for wear & rot, seated and safe, pumped up to recommended pressure

  • Rims trued on bike

  • Adjust headset bearings

Stopping:

  • Check brake pads for excessive wear, dry rot, and proper alignment
  • Check brake calipers and levers for proper attachment

  • Adjust brakes, lubricate cables.

Secure, (skip & jam-free):

  • Inspect and lubricate chain

  • Insect and straighten gear cogs

  • Adjust limit screws on front and rear derailleurs, lubricate cables

  • Check torque on all fasteners

  • Test ride to ensure quality

Tune-up ($75): This restores the bike to work like new. Includes labor for most common parts replacement:

Includes all services on "SSS" Safety Check PLUS:

  • Tires replaced if necessary

  • Brake and shift cables replaced, brake shoes replaced and derailleurs & brakes adjusted.

  • Full on-bike drivetrain cleaning: chain, cassette cogs, chainwheels, and derailleurs @ $2/cog and chainwheel.

  • Derailleurs replaced as necessary, lubricated & adjusted.

  • Chain wear checked, chain and freewheel/cassette replaced, as necessary

  • Adjust crank & wheel bearings 

  • Rims tuned to true and round on jig.

  • Clean frame, handlebar and rims

  • All major bearings - Wheel hubs, bottom bracket & headset checked for wear, adjusted, and lubed with 90W oil.

Overhaul ($125)

A comprehensive servicing...This restores the bike to work & look like new - or better! Includes all services on Full Tune-up PLUS:

  • Hub, headset and bottom bracket bearings cleaned and re-greased (replaced if needed).

  • Brake calipers and levers overhauled or replaced as necessary

  • All gear shift levers cleaned, de-rusted, replaced as necessary & adjusted.

  • Freewheel/cassette and chain removed, completely cleaned and lubricated or replaced as needed.

  • Rims tuned to true and round on jig.

  • Handlebar grips or tape replaced, loose accessories tightened.

  • Frame cleaned

 

ASSEMBLY

Assemble bike (except wheels) from on-line vendor, adjust to bike shop standards (set bearing pre-load, pre-stretch cables, fine-tune shifting, align brake pads, and safety-check bike)..................>>$25-$80
